Order of Isshin-Ryu Karate

Isshinryu Karate is an Okinawan martial art that emphasizes stand-up defenses and strikes. Developed by Master Tatsuo Shimabuku, he taught his system to a core group of Marines stationed in Okinawa from the early 1950s to 1970. Those men came back to the States and opened schools in various areas, and from those roots have grown a large following. From these men we have learned to be tough, resilient, and to be prepared for anything.

There are many benefits to traditional training: better balance, increased awareness, improved concentration and reaction time, flexibility, strength, and much more. Every class is unique, every class makes you sweat, and every class gives you something to strive for. Isn’t it time you began that journey to personal excellence?

Order of Isshinryu Karate is the particular branch of Isshinryu that we follow. The curriculum was developed by Grandmaster Toby Cooling, whose organization was founded in 1971.

Isshinryu emphasizes not only being physically fit and battle ready, but also discipline, dedication, perseverance, the right attitude, and heart. By that definition, the training is not easy, nor is rank easily achieved.  The formal exercises and reviews help students develop precise striking and movement applications. From this basis we help each student fully understand the many facets of martial arts and how to apply them to every day life. A good martial arts program will guide students to discover their strengths and weaknesses, and work with them.
