Karate Kids Program
For boys and girls aged 7 through 12.
==>
Why we don't start kids younger than 7 years old.
Many parents think that karate is only
about punching and kicking, but there's so much more to it. The development of
positive thinking, the mental and emotional strength to face adversity or
danger, and a strong body are just a few of the benefits.
|
|
Our system of stripes and colored belts
shows them
how to set short and long term goals, and are the rewards for diligent
practice and mastering new skills. Students must maintain a good grade point
average in school, follow their parents' instructions, as well as the dojo
protocols, to be considered for their next grading.
|
 |
Since we emphasize learning the underlying principles of martial
arts, progression up the belt levels is a bit slower than many other schools.
Our goal is to educate children, teens, and adults in the art of karate.
That takes time and dedication on the part of both teachers and students.
That doesn't mean we are all work and no play! We strive to
balance the serious study with fun activities that reinforce what the kids have
learned.
Some of our ongoing class topics include: how to
handle bullies, what to do if approached by a stranger, safety around guns, when
should you "tell", and how to focus.

Here's what parents are saying about our program: |
|
"Sensei Diane's dojo is a friendly, welcoming dojo
where children can safely learn the art of karate. My boys
learn to defend themselves, but also how to assess situations so they can
recognize, avoid, or diffuse confrontations...My boys have attended classes on
bullying, street safety, and gun safety...[they] are learning not just a martial
arts style, but control - in mind and body."

"Sierra Dojo has given August and Connor the confidence and skills they need to
succeed in a number of different sports, including soccer, baseball and
basketball...As parents we see the positive influence of respect and good
sportsmanship that are taught in class...We can't wait for our youngest son to
join too!"
