Michael Charlie,
sensei
His principal
instructor, Monroe Dacks, was the son of an American Ambassador to
Japan before WWII. It was there that Dacks sensei trained under
Mifune sensei.
As a teenager
Charlie was a dojo-rat, often working out 6 or 7 days a week. When
he wasn’t in the dojo, he’d practice falling at his home in Las
Vegas. He was an aggressive competitor, often traveling throughout
the Western US, entering multiple tournaments in a single weekend.
In the late 70s, he
moved to Sparks, Nevada and entered the law enforcement profession.
He served over 20 years before retiring, and was the defensive
tactics instructor for several departments as well as a POST
instructor. He currently is a national instructor for the
Controlled Force Institute
and conducts defensive tactics instructor’s certification
courses throughout the country.
Sensei Michael is
passionate about being an excellent instructor. He prides himself at
being able to engage students using several methods of teaching, so
that each student comes away from his classes learning as much as
possible.
